The Encounter with the Real

The Praxis of Short Non-fiction – Online, 27th November 2022.

(Specially Curated Session of Appreciation and Analysis of Non-fictions of Shorter Duration)

Prerequisites
None

Zone of Interest
Participants are welcome who are interested primarily about creating a relation with the reality of a given space through moving images and sounds, within a limited period of time. That ‘profilmic’ exercise (of camera-facing-real space) may culminate into various forms of short non-fictions.

Mode of Interaction
Online / One day / Six hours

Content
The session will focus on documentaries of shorter duration, which were made through a significant interaction of the maker with a space, but the interaction not necessarily might have been a prolonged one. The examples of the films would provide some ideas about the modes of interaction with a space through image and sound capturing devices, like: creating a specific image-definition of a space; sensing the temporal rhythm of a space; getting into the inner invisible qualities of a space; creating a network of spatial compositions, characters, objects, movements, gestures emanating from a space, and, rearranging and realigning those relations to arrive at a significant audio-visual experiential form generated from that encounter. The session would also indicate towards an artisanal and materialistic approach where the iconic-indexical nature of ‘profilmic’ image gathered from reality gradually may lead the creative mind of the maker towards various possibilities of churning of ideas and abstractions – as opposed to the more familiar practice, where pre-conceived ideas are put in operation in a given space.
